I have been trying to up date a new Fuze using the Sansa Updater. I keep getting two errors, #1003 and #1005. Does anyone know what these are and how to fix the problem.
This is my second Fuze. I have updated the first one twice with no problems.

It happens to a lot of people, including myself. I eventually got it to work, but go to firmware update thread. Read the first post, it tells you how to manually update your Fuze.
haha, I got similar experience before and was wondering why Sansa people could not do such simple software development work correctly.
I was forced to do the work manually later.
Basically, you just have to copy firmware files to the root directory of Sansa, turn it on and wait for a while ( serveral minutes? Be patient! ) to let machine do the firmware update. If it still does not turn on automatically, turns it off then turns it on, you are all set.
Anyway, firmware update of Sansa was such a bad experience to me, i believe it is a dangerous process and refuse doing it again if there is no absoluate necessity.
I am pretty happy with current firmware and don’t want to do it again to risk ruining my current great setting.

The manual firmware update is so easy. Sandisk should get rid of the updater software. Follow the instructions in the first post.

I just updated the firmware on my new 8GB Fuze for the first time using the above instuctions. Everything went without a hitch the first time. I had also received the #1003 error when I tried to use the Sansa updater. I’ll be doing all of my firware updates manually from now on. Thanks folks!
Thanks. I will try again. The only manual one I saw was in this post. I finally found 01.02.22 and will try it again. I manually did 01.02.26 a bunch of times to no avail. I removed the HDSD card, dragged the bin. Rebooted device and the bin disapearred. Is there any way to know that .bin applied beyond System Settings/INFO on the device itself. My continued to indicate 01.02.28 no matter which .bin I put in the root. They all disapeared, but the INFO remains the same. Of all the equipment I have had since 1989 this has been the only device that has not flashed Firmware consistently though I like the Fuze. SIgh…
The Sansa Updater error points to a server issue in accessing the desired files. Trying again at a later time often solves the issue, but it is far simpler to manually install, if your patience is variable like my own.
If you are currently running the .28 version, you have the latest and greatest, save the ongoing ReplayGain issue some mention with the rev. 2 devices.
The Sansa uses a checksum method to verify the integrity of a downloaded .bin file, and will not allow “cross pollenation” of revision 1 or 2 firmwares, so manually installing the firmware is a simple, and safe, task. Just be sure to decompress or unzip the firmware file after downloading, or it will not work.
