Sansa Media Converter Build 4.256 & 4.263: Download Details and Release Notes

@whocares wrote:
is this also for the sansa clip

No there is no need for it as the clip doesnt play video or photos.

I had recently downloaded and installed the above SMC build; it works fine however, on my next boot of the computer it totally slows down the PC; it takes forever to startup. OS is Win XP Media Centre SP3, are there any solutions?

Thanks

Strange . . . I haven’t personally experienced this, nor have I read any other’s posts here complaining of it either.

All I can suggest is un-install it, re-boot to confirm the computer works properly without it, then re-install it and see what happens.

When I follow the link I get this message

Access Denied

You don’t have permission to access “http://mp3support.sandisk.com/sansa/SMC” on this server.

Check your firewall settings or anit-virus software. Either one could be trying to protect you by blocking downloads.

I was just now able to follow the link & D/L without any problems at all.

Why make it so incredibly hard to find out how to download the media converter. This is a good unit, made poor by a lousy user experience on your website. I mean, didn’t you just ask someone once to take a run through to observe their experience? Just trying to find where to download the video converter, so I can load a simple AVI file, should not be the job of a techie! I mean, really! All it takes is a link - DOWNLOAD MEDIA CONVERTER HERE - on your Sansa homepage… Duh!

I guess I’m not understanding your frustration. On the Forum’s main page, there is a listing/link, big as life for the Sansa Media Converter board. Once here, the very top or 1st shaded post is for the Sansa Media Converter Build 4.256: Download and Release Notes (the 1st one in this thread you replied to). Clicking on the link contained within will download the Media Converter software, a self-executing file that wil install itself; no muss, no fuss.

I can’t see where it can get much simpler than that. If you can read English and press a mouse buton, you should have no problems.

Using the media converter - it wont allow me to import titles in the russian alphabet, yet the player supports a russian menu system. what gives?

I care about the background. I want to be able to change my Sansa Fuze as a wallpaper background.

Is there anyway to get rid of that slotRadio icon? I really don’t wanna use it and it’s just bugging me while it’s there. I tried formatting it and it didn’t go away. And I have looked around for an answer and I could not find anything. If someone could give me a hand on this that would be amazing.

Regards,

Ersh

Are you talking about the SlotRadio icon on your player’s screen? This is the Sansa Media Converter board.

Depending on what player you have, you may be able to roll-back to a previous firmware version (before it was added), but otherwise there’s no way to simply turn it off.

I wouldn’t let it bug me; there are icons on the main menu that I don’t use either, like Photos or Recordings. But they’re not doing any harm being there; I just scroll past them.

This has been suggested many times before and may (or may not) be added at some time in a future firmware update.

But it’s a little off-topic for this, the Sansa Media Converter board, don’t you think?

Hello,

I am urgently looking for a direct download link for Sandisk Media Converter, the Firmware Updater DOES NOT WORK.

The Firmware Updater recognizes my Sansa Fuze and the Firmware Version, then he writes

“looking for updates, please wait”

for 15 min, so I closed it.

(Happily I found a direct link to the firmware V1.02.28F to update it )

I hope, you can help me else I have to return the player.

In most cases, it’s your firewall protecting you by blocking access to the server containing the Updater. Turn your firewall off, download the Updater & then turn your firewall back on.

Thank you for your fast answer, but I don’t have a problem to download the Updater.

I have already installed the Updater, and the Updater does not work.

I am tired of struggeling with this silly  programm, I need the SMC, so I need a direct download link (like the one for the firmware).

I tried the Updater on my notebook (last install ca. 2 years) and on my freshly installed desktop. Both XP SP3 and all updates, both MS XP integrated firewall, I tried it with Opera and the Internet Explorer, but this should not become a debugging session for the Updater.

Yours mbans

OK, I wasn’t quite specific in my response. What I meant to say is that your firewall may be preventing your Updater from connecting with the server, thus preventing the download of the SMC and resulting in the ‘hang-time’ where the Updater appears not to be working.

It may be working it’s little heart out, but if it’s hittiing a brick wall it can’t do what it’s designed to. Oh yeah, make sure your player is connected when running the Updater, too. If not, it won’t download anything either.

One more thing, I know it’s supposed to work in both modes, but I’ve always had the best success with the player is MSC mode, not MTP while connected and running the Updater. That is, years ago when I actually used the Updater.

Dear Tapeworm,

as I wrote, I use the Microsoft Firewall, the Updater should deal with it. If it does not, it should yield a clear error message.

But now I completely turned of the Firewall, I connected my Fuze (as always in MSC-Mode), the Updater reads the modell and Version 1.02.28F and writes in german:

“Sansa Updater sucht nach aktuellen Updates      Bitte Warten…”.

Translated to english it is:

“Sansa Updater is looking for Updates                 Please Wait…”

I waited for another 20 min, nothing.

I’m a surprised. You are a Sansa Guru, but you don’t even use the sansa software? Thats exactly what I want to do, please tell me how!

Yours mbans

The sansa updater will not install for me!!! PLEase HELPPP

Check your firewall and/or anti-virus software. It may be blocking connection with the server in its effort to protect your computer against internet nasties.

I also can not dowload the SMC using the direct download link. I get a simple “file not found” message.

Before you say anything tapeworm, I absolutely, positively do not have a firewall or anything of the sort. And I tried 2 browsers, both with the same result.

It seems there are many of us here that can not download it, and that’s just those of us who bothered to register and complain - could someone please have a look at the link and see what’s wrong.

edit: I see in another thread

http://forums.sandisk.com/sansa/board/message?board.id=sansafuse&thread.id=1&view=by_date_ascending&page=14

that the SMC is only available via the automatic updater. You’d think that would be worth mentioning here, since there are links to the old page everywhere.
