Sansa Fuze File System

Can you use fuze in FAT32 or NTFS file system?

The Fuze firmware is designed to read FAT32, I believe. I’m not entirely sure what happens if you format it as NTFS, but you’ll undoubtedly have problems.

NTFS probably looks the same as having no file system at all, so it’ll ask you to format I think.

my fuze came FAT.

i just formatted my fuze to FAT32.

It works fine except that video rewind is slow so i fromatted back to FAT

What size is it?

2GB = FAT

my fuze is 2GB

The best choice is to format as FAT if 2GB or less, otherwise FAT32 for all capacities above 2GB.  You should use 32kb as your cluster allocation size as well.  This is optimal for the Sansa.  Windows has an affinity for 4kb clusters, making for a HUGE FAT wiht larger capacity devices, and you can have playback issues.

After formatting using Windows, you can ensure a proper cluster size by reformatting using the built-in format command on the device.   In addition, it allows the Sansa to prepare for a higher song limit (file count).

The best solution for external media, is the panasonic formatting tool.  Then you know it will be formatted correctly.
