ok.thanks, so all i need to do is to download that firmware and whats next? download it to my computer while my sansa fuze is connected via the USB port?? is that correct?? is this firmware same with the itunes of Ipods?thanks again.
heids,
IMO based on your other questions and this question you should hold off on this firmware update… Get use to your unit… ask more questions and when you get a bit more familiar with your unit then do the up date… Firmware is like the operating system in your computer “windows XP or what ever you have” It is the OS of your Fuze… I think in your other post you had said you use Rhapsody for your music. You know that well enough to make use of it and your fuze. That’s great! It works for you, you like it and use it… You don’t need to install any software to use your fuze. Rip cd’s in WMP 11 if you have them and sync them up to your fuze… Or just do as your doing using Rhapsody! The choice is yours… You will learn more in time as you want to do things in other ways… Or do other thins with your Fuze. Rip Cd’s, add you photos or pod-casts dvd’d and or videos… it all will come in time… This is just IMO… This is a great place to learn and there are some good people here that know anything you need help with… Have fun enjoy and good luck… George

thank you so much for the information George!! well., as i go over the messages here I am learning a little bit…ahaha… anyway., i just want to clarify if the information I understand is correct…well., all i need to do is to download the firmware and install it to my computer and while installing it to my computer my sansa fuze should be connected to my computer via the USB port? is that correct?? do i need to do something else??
Heids,
There are two ways to update the firmware if you feel you must… #1 use the auto updater installer. #2 Do it manually yourself… It’s up to you… Go to the first post and you will see how to download the installer or here is something I copied that Bob, posted to do it manually… Good luck!! George
Again Manual install firmware update #2 method!! You can still install the firmware manually by following the manual installation directions in this thread.
Be sure to unzip (extract) the file after downloading. Open a Windows Explorer window (my Computer) and plug in your Fuze, in MSC mode, preferably. Double click on the Fuze, and simply drag and drop the .bin file you extracted into the window with the folders, but not into any of them. This is the root directory.
If, when you opened the Fuze, “Internal Memory” displays, you’re in MTP mode- but that will be ok, as long as you double click again to open the root directory of the Fuze.
Once done (the display of the Fuze will show “connected” ), unplug, and the firmware will install.

thanks again. hmm…George? can i download Sansa Fuze 01.01.15 Latest Firmware since i do not have or i dont use old firmwares before? so i think based on what you told me…this is not a program like itunes where i can manipulate the settings of my sansa, right? thanks!
by the way what is MSC mode?? thanks? i saw it on my sansa but i dont know what is it.
heids
You read right! This is not a program “like iTuns” This update fixes bugs and other issues in you fuze and adds some new features to how the fuze will work with anything you have loaded into it… Do not mess up the install of this… If you do your fuze will not operate at all and could become a paper weight… I have not done the firmware up date yet… As I like to wait a bit and see how it woks for others for awhile… I have no issues that I need ot do this update right away… Again based on your questions wait and do the update sometime in the future… Maybe other people can word it better then I can to make it more understandable for you… It will come to you in time… We all learn how to get the most out of our units… Again good luck! George
oh! so you mean you haven’t tried the firmware yet?
That’s exactly what George is saying and recommending that you do as well . . . hold off until you are more familiar with your new toy.
All the units; his, mine, & yours too already have firmware. They would not operate without it. What came out on Friday is just an update. Just like Windows comes out with patches & security updates and such. You probably have your computer set up to automatically download & install these updates, so you don’t know when they happen.
The 1st post in this thread provides a link to the download and more importantly gives you a description of what changes in this new version (bug fixes, feature enhancements, etc.) There is nothing wrong (except minor bugs) with the firmware that is already on your Fuze and you can enjoy your device without updating. People have been doing it for months since they came out, so you can be confident that it’s not going to blow up on you or anything!
I would second George’s suggestion that you not worry about this firmware thing until you get used to your new toy, and are comfortable putting on new music, etc. and know your way around it a bit more. Then , if you decide the included features in the update would benefit you, you can install the update & will be more comfortable doing it.
As a new user, I’d also suggest read, read, read . . . the User’s Guide, the FAQs & stickies at the top of the page (shaded) and the posts & replies as they come in. If this is your first mp3 player, it’s all going to seem “Greek” to you and overwhelming, but give it time . . . you can’t run until you first learn to walk.
Menu item “Play previous” disappears when player had been turned off… This was so important to me. I wanted to turn on the shuffle function, play my music, then listen to the radio, then “play previous”, then watch videos, then go home and turn off the player, then turn it on in the morning on the way to the university, listen to morning news on the radio, turn to music and go on with shuffle…uuups, “play previous” has disappeared…do the work around again just to listen to the same songs I listened to yesterday…what can I say. I am disappointed. I wish you guys good luck with sansa. It used to have great sound, but we are not friends any more. Bye
Wow…
OK, “Play previous” is not preserved at power off. However, if you power off after selecting your music play list and then power on the sequence will be remembered. You can then go about the FM, Videos, etc. Just remember if the music sequence is absolutely critical, just select the play previous BEFORE powering off.
Sorry about that, we will add this request to the list.
Hello,
I’m just wondering if I can revert back to the old Firmware as I have a copy of it “01.01.11a” If I decide I don’t want to run with the new firmware? Sill waiting a bit as I’m seeing small issues here and there… George
I saw the shutdown problem once…As in your case, the Fuze did a database refresh the next time I turned it on. I also noticed that the database refresh seems to be slower with this update, but that might be my imagination since it never happened to me on the fly so to speak before.

yes you can revert back. just follow the same proccess as updating but use the .11a file
I haven’t noticed if the refresh speed is different myself. Two nights ago I installed a bunch of new songs in several directories, which involves removing an entire directory, letting the player refresh, then reloading the directory with new songs included and letting it refresh again, which means I got to watch several refreshes and they all seemed to be the same length as before.
Oh yes, the remove directory-refresh-load directory is required if I want my songs to be listed in alphabetical order afterward. If I just drop them in, the new songs appear at the end of the list instead of in order. Even deleting the index file (mtable.sys?) for the database doesn’t put the songs in the right order. I really wish they’d fix this as it’d make loading new songs much less tedious…
drlucky,
Thank you for the reply! George
George,i too was very apprehensive about the new firmware after having some disasterous results in the past.I finally took the plunge as i couldn’t resist any longer, you should give it a shot ,i think you’ll be quite pleased. I’m glad i did.
So let me get this straight. OGG and FLAC, list wrapping, and album art embedding was included but not the albility to chose between ID3 and folder/file name browsing?
I love how the admins ignore everyone who mentions gapless playback…
