Sansa express not accepting more then 128 files

When I drag and drop mp3-files to the Media folder of my Sansa Express, I get an error message after 128 files saying

“The file xxx.mp3 cannot be copied. It may already exist or is in use by another programm”.

(Hope I translated this correctly; my OS is not in English)

The Sansa Express doesn’t accept any more files in the Media folder, nor in the Data folder!!

System info on the Sansa Express reads:

Firmare: 01.01.01F

Memory 974MB

Free 865MB

Songs 128

WinXP SP2 - Media Player 10 - Sansa Express 1GB

Tried format, reset, hardware reset. No luck.

I had the same problem with drag and drop.  I worked around it by using WMP10, and using the sync function.  Another thing that may work though I have not tried it, is to make the device work in MSC mode and try to drag/drop again.

Tried both solutions, without succes

format it to FAT16…
see if this works.

try to make a folder, which named ‘audio’, in the device and try again. I had same problem, and I solved that way.

or you may need to reformat to fat32 or format in WMP10/11

I had same issue.  They are correct.  Create a folder and place files in there.  Works like a charm.

Just don’t update the firmware.

Thanks, all of you for your replies. Finally found out what was going wrong. The media folder acts like the root directory, having limited capacity. I dropped individual files in this folder, with the known consequenses. The trick is indeed to create a subfolder in the mediafolder. Works like a charm indeed, even with the upgraded firmware. Manual is misleading about this issue IMO.
