SanDisk Cruzer Extreme USB 3.0 64 GB to store virtual machine image

I recently bought a  SanDisk Cruzer Extreme USB 3.0 64 GB. I was thinking to use it to store a virtual machine image in order to use the same os on different devices. Could this kind of usage ruin the drive faster ?

yes this will wear the drive way faster since it will work like a bootable medium and read and write the data all the time

What kind of virtual machine image are you speaking of?  An ISO?

ISO files are frequently run in RAM and thus have little IO on the flash drive.

@schnuffyrex thanks for the very clear answear.

@Ed_P it’s a Oracle Virtualbox image ( with a .vdi disk). So all the i/0 activity take place on the USB drive.

thank you both!
