San Disk 2TB already full

I am very confused. I have purchased a brand new 2TB external SAN Disk Extreme SSD and it is 3/4 of the way full. I have tried erasing and re formatting. I am not impressed

This is often caused by hidden local Time Machine snapshots hogging space. Check this first in Disk Utility. If that’s not it, try a secure erase (not just a quick format) to wipe all data. If the issue persists, the drive might be faulty—consider an RMA.

Have you sorted this out? If not, the following solutions may help resolve the issue:

Solution 1: Update the Hard Drive Driver

Open the Start menu, type Device Manager in the search box, and press Enter.

Expand the Disk Drives section, right-click the hard drive showing the incorrect capacity, and select Update Driver.

Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.

Solution 2: Update the Drive’s Firmware
(If you’re unsure how to do this, refer to the steps here: Hard Drive Not Showing Full Capacity? Try These Solutions)

Solution 3: Reformat the USB Drive Again
Please note that initializing or formatting an external USB drive will erase all existing data. Ensure you have a backup before proceeding.

Solution 4: Use CHKDSK to Check for Errors

Open the Start menu, type cmd, right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator.

In the Command Prompt window, type chkdsk X: /f /r and press Enter to scan for bad sectors and file system errors. (You need to replace “X:” with the letter of the Extreme external hard drive)
