Safely remove hardware

When I attach my Sansa Clip 4mb to my Windows XP computer via USB, it does not appear under “Safely remove hardware.”  Is this normal?  As long is the display does not show “writing”, is it safe to remove the Clip from USB cable without doing a “safely remove hardware?”

If you are connected in MTP mode, the data are sent in packets slightly different from MSC mode.  The computer recognizes the Clip as a “device” rather than assuming control over the file system.

As long as the unit isn’t actively transferring data, you can unplug.  If there is a problem, you should get the familair “unsafe removal of device” message.

I’ve never experienced a single problem with unplugging after active transfer, in either mode.
