I just bought a 4TB My Passport but accidentally unplugged it in the middle of a transfer, it reported a disk error when I plugged it in and tried resuming my transfer, I did talk it out with WD Tech support (since I wasn’t familiar with this kind of situation), because the error message looked particularly alarming.
I started a Checkdisk process like he told me to, but it looks like it’s going to take a long time, and I don’t feel comfortable leaving it going overnight when I can’t watch it.
If I cancel the process and eject the hard drive, will it pick up where it left off when I plug it in next (I have both options[“Automatically fix file errors” and “Scan for and attempt recovery on bad sectors”] checked on), or will I have to start over?
Don’t cancel it … let it finish, otherwise you may have bigger problems if you do.
Why ? it’s not gonna explode or self destruct in the middle of the night.
If that’s your fear then you better stay up every night and keep an eye on your Refrigerator and your Hot Water System which you leave running everynight 24 hours a days 365 days a year.
I’ve let my PC run for 24 hours straight sometimes doing disk checks, low level formatting, zero filling etc. Nothing bad happened.
Well, maybe not, but I’ve already run into a fair share of issues involving my CPU and motherboard as of late (it’s getting to the point where I really need a new rig). Having it break down on me while I’m asleep is something I really want to avoid.
