RMA Process with "write protected" flash drive.

Any one encounter this problem…

I bought a SanDisk Ultra Cruzer 64 GB and within few days I got “disk write error” and the situation worsen , it became “Write Protected”. I can’t delete or write any files on the flash drive. I tried several way base on online solution but still can’t get it work.I have some confidential data inside the flash drive which can’t be deleted nor formated.

I emailed to SanDisk and was advised the following “We will make an exception for you to return the product in broken pieces. To provide you with a sense of security, you may break the SanDisk defective device and ship it back to us. Also, please print out and include this update so that our Receiving Department does not reject your RMA.”

Soon I got a Return Authorization ID from SanDisk and broke the defective device to assure the my data is no recoverable. I proceeded on mailing the product back with all content of the email and hightlighted the RMA number and the part where I can break the defective device  However, after SanDisk RMA HK had recieved the device, I got this reply “After checking the product you sent to our engineer, we found that the product may physically damaged personally. Under the situation, we may not accept the return of the product. So we would like to confirm the reason of causing the damage to see if we could grant you an exception for the warranty.”

I have been using SanDisk products for 10 over years and this is the first time I encountered such problem and with the RMA process, I am somehow disappointed with it…

This is a mistake by the receiving department. I will send a request to the Asia support center for you and makes sure someone contacts you and gets this resolved as soon as possible.

Thank you very much and I hope that this issue will resolve soon as it have been 48 hrs yet I have not recieve any email from HK side. When I sent a email to them, it shown status “Updated” and then became “Answered”. I am getting quite irritated with the response by HK RMA…

that’s funny… noticed in the forum, there were so many having the problem with the “Write protected” error. wondering is it some problem with the process of the manufacturing or is it using a lower quality material than the previous…

My previous Titanium has been using for more than 5 years and it still doing fine… this Ultra Cruzer only purchased for less than a week have such problem…
