Are there gudelines on this? I note a key back up file for retrieval is on C when you go to settings.
Are you talking about Smartware or some other backup?

This seems difficult from Smartware. I have tried to move files backed up by Smartware to another PC and it cannot retrieve because of the retrieve index is on C drive.
Yes it is Smartware.
After you install Smartwae on the new drive sometimes it is necessary to run another backup This might help http://community.wdc.com/t5/My-Book-for-PC/data-restore/m-p/161586/highlight/true#M5703 I only used the Smartware once and uninstalled it so I don’t know a lot about it.
