My HD crashed so I had to use my backup to put my personal files onto my new computer but when it finished, there were no pictures in any of the My Pictures folders. I had lots of folders named by date and every one is empty. The My Documents folder does have my documents in it. Why no pics in the pictures folders? I used the first option in the original setup which should have allowed it to copy whatever it thought was necessary. This is the last time I’ll use a backup that won’t allow me to see the original files on the backup drive so I’ll know the files are really there. The compressed files you use with your own special file types is not for me and I’ll never back up that way again. I lost hundreds of family pictures that I can’t replace.
I’ve had something similar on new 6tb my book 1230 6 days old now 1st couple of days thought lost all files showed empty drive since then have had utorrent come up with disk read errors on files while running so I’ve run WD Drive Utilities Drive Status Check and it fails have transferred 230gb of Flac Files from a 4TB my book 1140 which has been running 24/7 for a few years and is now full so was going to transfer it all over was using utorrent, so can sort and catalogue as transferring I’m using a new tower I set up 16 nov 2015 since then in device management, WD administrative events there’s 62,000 errors and warnings about 10,000-15,000 would be since new drive connected and set up on 12 may 2016 most common Event Id 51 If I pulled power to drive and repower it’s ok again when I setup chose never go to sleep
running WIN10 AMD4 8gb with another 4 x my book ext hdd that there’s no problem with
only thing have to check is usb port type maybe usb2
a pop up error = Device not Ready (read from Disk) this while files were active being uploaded with utorrent luckily was able to just start torrent again rather than recheck files or restart drive
