Request HELP - Mypassport 500 GB is not getting detected by laptop - XP

Dear All,

Im having a Mypassport 500 GB (USB) external drive. I was using this for the past 1 year and yesterday onwards my laptop (with XP) is not detecting the drive. Its showing the device attacehd to this is malfunctioned and windows does not recognise it. (image attached)

Downloaded driver for this model (WDBAAA5000ABK-EESN) and installed , rebooted the system. Tried connecting the drive, its showing the same issue. After installing the driver, its showing the there is no driver available for this device.

Mypassport drive rotating and its indicator light is ON (blinking when connected, and after a while its permanently ON)

I have lot of data inside. Request your valuable guidance to resolve this problem.

Thanks in advance.

Hi rajneesh, have you tried using another USB cable? Try using one of the same length as the original, you can also open the disk management to see if the Passport is recognized there. Check the links below for the steps to open the disk management and for the steps to run a test using DLG.

Hello Ichigo,

Thank you for the response. I have tried checking using Disk management and it was not showing the external drive. I have also tried using Data lifeguard to trouble shoot but it was not detecting the drive either, hence could not progress the same.

I did not tried the alternate cable because I dont have a spare one. Please guide to resolve this issue. I would like to retrieve the data inside the drive.

Thanks in advance.

Have tried all suggested trouble shooting methods, but the system is not detecting the drive. Its becoming a real pain because i have lot of important data inside this drive. I also have a seagate drive which im using for the past 5 years, and still its in very good condition.

Im really frustrated with this WD product, its very unreliable and for data retrieval the third party people are demanding close to 200 USD ( 11,000/- INR) which is double the cost of the drive. I feel its really absurd situation.

The whole point of using an external drive is to keep the data safe, if this is the case your product, why would some one buy this product ? Im really frustrated and deeply dissatisfied with this mypassport.
