Remove Passport drive > put into USB 3 enclosure?

I was thinking of removing the hard drive from my existing 320Gb  Passport and

putting it in a USB 3,  2.5 inch hard disk enclosure.

It may not work. They don’t use a standard drive in most models. They need the bridge board for hardware and password encrytpion.
