Recovering files from write-protected and corrupted ext HDD

Here’s my original message from few weeks ago:

"So I needed to reboot my computer because of some other stuff and after the reboot, I couldn’t access it anymore and it wouldn’t show up in My Computer.

Now, it does show up in Disk Management, but it says that I need to format it first. That wouldn’t be a problem, but most of the files I have in the drive are important and I don’t have other backups of them. Is there any other way I can get the drive to work again, or at least get the files out to my older, now unused, external drive?"

I downloaded Recuva to recover files but it doesn’t recognize the drive until it’s formatted. Now I tried to do that through disk management, but it says that the drive is write-protected, even though it wasn’t before it got corrupted.

So how am I supposed to format and recover the files now?

Oh btw, even though the drive is 1Tb, disk management says it’s 2Tb (my brothers Mac said that also when we tried it on it). EDIT: Just tried the power adapter of my old HDD and now it says the drive is 1Tb.

Hi, sorry to hear that you cannot access your files, if conventional methods to recover your files don’t work, you can also contact one of the data recovery companies that WD recommends. Check the link below for more information.
