My harddrive is not recognizable by my computer for some reason, It's just not loading at all. I have a lot of files on it and no way of bringing it back up. I installed an update but restored it to my previous setting. Witch did not work, cause it is not loading the WD Smartware program. So I had to install the update again. I also did a PC check up and it failed to scan the harddrive. Before the restore the drive was flashing and it was saying it was being discovered? I do not know how this situation happen. My hard drive was working perfectly before all of this. Just hope there is some way for me to fix it with out losing a massive # of my files. I have a lot of information on this drive and it will take a lot out of me to attempt to resave. A lot of movies, TV shows, and music. I do not think I can go through that again. 2TB and more that was save of the drive. I have a 3TB Drive. Please help if you can, Thanks! |
This could be an issue with data corruption according to the information you provided, I would recommend you to try testing the drive with the ScanDisc and also try defragment it, if the utility is unable to repair the partition you migth need to use a search engine such as Google to look for a Data Recovery Software in order to extract the files before formatting the drive so you can use it again.
none of these are helping. The drive just will not load at all for some reason?
Well it’s loading again. I have not lost any files. Thank God! Hope to never be in this situation again.
Make sure you have more than one copy of important files. One copy is not a backup.

“One copy is not a backup”
how many copies do we need as a backup then? Seriously, most of us buy these external drives to be a BACKUP and then are screwed when they fail! I think that one copy is enough to be a backup, it just needs to be copied on a reliable place - which WD drives do not seem to be!
I cannot bring myself to buy and maintain two external drives or back up systems, a back up for my back up? Where would it end??
You need 2 copies to be safe. The forums are full of people who move their data to an external drive to free up space on PC. They only have one copy and that is not a backup They find that out when they have problems like you did. I use 3 externals 2 of them I sync to PC data and the third I do periodic system images. Transferring to an external HD is no different than depending on the PC HD with no backup. External HDs are more susceptible to problems like corruption and rough handling.

Western Digital Has Know They were Producing a Defective Product since Early 2009. Unfortunately They Didn’t Inform The Rest of Us.? So IF You Have Your Data Stored on a WD Hard Drive. One Copy is Definitely Not Enough. I’d Suggest At Least 10-12 Copies if All You Have are WD Hard Drives. Or Just Buy ONE (BleepedOut) Hard Drive.! With the Salary of “One Advisor”, I could Hire a TEAM of Experienced Computer Programmers, Pay Each One $6.00 Us per Day, instead of The $5.00 US per 12 HR Day They’re Making Now with M.S.( If That’s Too Expensive, Beginning Programmers are paid $2.50 US per 12 Hr Day at M.S.) and in just a couple of Weeks, They’d have a program Where Everybody could retrieve The Data Locked By The “Smartware” (still sic). Naw, That Makes Too Much Sense.!!! Better to Keep Selling ■■■■, Then Tell People It’s Their Own Fault For NOT having A Backup Copy, of Their Backup Copy, Of Their Backup Copy Of Their Backup Copy, Of Their Data.???
Darn SHAME, What Was Once The Best HD on The Market, has Cut so many Corners to Save a Few Dollars, That What They’re Selling Now is The WORST HD on The Market, and Definately NOT Worth Buying at ANY COST.!!!
