PROBLEM of connecting three 2T portable drives!

Dear expert,

I am using a Lenovo x230 PC (3 x USB, internal SSD 200G, Windows 7).  I bought two 2T passport 1-2 years before and recently I bought another 2T passport ultra (total three 2T drives).  For the first two drives, I locked one and leaving another unlocked.  After I locked the new 2T passport ultra (ie two drives locked and you can see from screenshot below that there are 2 CD-ROM), it cannot be detected by File Explorer properly - however, my PC shows the drive exist (in Computer Management) but it was offline because of signature collision.

I tried to change the drives for different letters but it does not work (tried leaving X, Y, E, F unoccupied each time).  I also tried connecting only 2 drives and even 1 drive to my PC - but all do not work.  I tried re-boot my PC again and again but nothing changed.  Finally, I tried connecting the new 2T passport ultra to another PC and it works.  I guess this may be caused by the security software.  As the file explorer cannot show the new drive, I do not know whether it is possible to remove the security.  I called the retailer for advice but the guy told me that this is the driver problem and there is no solution to resolve it.

Appreciate if you can give advice to resolve the problem.

Many thanks

Danny

Hello,

You need to click on the box that says “offline” and then turn the drive online.

Check this link to see if it will help.

Only one drive is seen when connecting two WD external drives of the same size to a Windows 7 or Windows 8 PC

There is also a more permanent fix  http://community.wdc.com/t5/My-Passport-for-PC/Copy-files-from-one-drive-to-another/m-p/277504/highlight/false#M7587 see post 11.

Hi well these passport drives take enough power to run. I have checked but can not seem to find the exact specs for power usage. But 3 on a USB laptop connection it may not have enough power to run them all, an external powered USB hub may fix this.

Thanks.  Problem resolved…

Joe_S Even I have not tried this, the article is informative.  Many thanks

Hammey, thanks for the suggestion - before that I was also thought that the power is not sufficient.  Now I have 3 2T drives running!!!  Thanks
