I finally have my connect working in Ubuntu. The latest firmware was the problem. After a factory reset all is great. Is there a way to prevent it from installing the firmware again?

Facory reset does not reinstall the original firmware. What firmware version is on yours now?
I suppose there are some domains such as ying or sandisk.com that can be blacklisted at a router, while still allowing Yahoo.com domains. Someone else can probably specify what domain names to block.
Linux isnt the problem nor is the firmware
Ive been running NiX for several years and currently am sitting on Ubuntu 8.04
The player mounts fine. And if you use the WiFi feature at all the firmware updates through there too. cant be stopped
Chances are when the firmware updated, there was a bit of confusion in the player and it just needed to have the settings refreshed
