Prevent accidental file deletion by providing password for files

Hi
WD My passport is an excellent portable hard drive yet there are some conditions where files can be lost without user permission.I am here to let you know that any folder(OF ANY SIZE) in the drive are prone to one TAP DELETION process. If we select a file and if we ACCIDENTALLY just tap DELETE button from keyboard the file is completely deleted without any pre notification. This procedure will happen for any file regardless of its SIZE.We all know there is a software available for overall password encryption for the external drive. But this doesn’t stop the one tap accidental deletion process and EVERY ONE cant afford for large size files to backup in Dropbox.
So i suggest to create a software which prevents accidental deletion like by providing to enter a password or key before deletion so that the deletion process is authenticated.
THANK YOU

That’s a function of your operating system (Windows or whatever) and nothing to do with the MyPassport. It’s just a drive, and doesn’t run any kind of software for that sort of thing.

You should normally be able to set such confirmations up in your OS though perhaps?

And as you seem to have posted this request several times around the board, I take it you’ve experienced such a problem recently? I’d suggest you review your OS set-up on this subject…

@DarrenHill if i am a programmer i would have done it first without posting my issue since i am not a programmer to set confirmations to my windows OS, i am requesting the WD itself to create a simple software which can be useful to everyone to prevent accidental file deletion.

That isn’t how it works.

The MyPassport is a simple plug-in USB drive, you can think of it a bit like a large USB key (although it’s a hard drive not a solid state device). It is designed to be viewed and used through all Windows programs and apps.

Yes they could write a file manager, but that’s overkill and entirely unnecessary. All you need to do is turn on delete confirmation in Windows. See the link below on how to do that:

Note this only works within file explorer. If you’re using another app or program to access the MP then you would have to look in that for a similar setting.

Hi again @DarrenHill
I am very happy that you are considering my issue seriously and finding a way to sort it out.I have seen the link you have attached and read through.
The one tap deletion in EXTERNAL WD HARD DRIVE doesn’t move the files to recycle bin.I would be very happy if it does since i can restore but instead the files are permanently deleted. That’s why i am requesting a software for authentic deletion.Hope you understand
THANK YOU

Just to be clear, I’m just another user and not WD staff, and my solution above is not anything specific to their products.

All of this is due to your Windows being misconfigured for what you want. The link I provided above may help with that, but this does not specifically relate to anything concerning the drive. It will be generic for any such USB storage media.

Yes i understand,i want you to let you know the software for locking the whole external drive is compatible with windows and the external drive for which it is running successfully. They have designed the software like that. Now i am requesting similar kind of software to prevent accidental one tap deletion.YES it is my system OS functioning that’s why i am requesting a new software.
A Software itself is tool to grant or deny permissions to windows.

As noted that’s a function of the OS not anything else, so unless you only ever access the drive via that software and have no other software at all accessing the drive, then it won’t work. You have to make the setting change in the OS, and where possible under the actual software that you’re using to save to/access the drive.
