I have a MyBook Home Edition 500G drive. It has worked great for me until the other day. My computer didn’t recognize it, so I rebooted the drive. Since then, I have the same problem over and over:
The drive powers up, my computer recognizes it, it starts the autoplay to search what is on the drive, and I have access to it for less than a minute. Once I try to access files on the drive, I can hear it power down and then back up again. It gets stuck in a loop of this until I turn it off.
It is not on long enough for me to get the 475G worth of info off it. I am using Windows 7 Home and was originally using the firewire hook-up. I tried the USB, no avail. I tried on another computer, same thing. I took the drive out of the external casing ang hooked it up directly to the PC, no good. It always does the same cycle of giving me a little bit of access, then cycling on and off.
I tried CHKDSK /r and it got through 4/5 of the tests.
I want this data and am open to suggestions.
