Passport Ultra not backup

I bought Passport Ultra 1TB on March to backup data on my W10x64. It has been working fine. For some reasons, the automatic backup and backupnow of the smartware are not working now. I tried to reinstall the driver but did not fix the problem. I can read the data on the Passport. Any suggestions?

WD SmartWare works independently from your WD Passport, so re-installing the hardware driver will not address a software issue.

Did you re-install WD SmartWare itself? Does the backup proceed if the backup engine is changed from File to Category? Also note WD SmartWare does not create entire backups every time, it only adds new files, which is done within seconds if no schedule is set.

Thanks for your suggestions. From control panel, I re-installed the WD Backup. But when I clicked Backup Now, nothing showed up below the My Passport (J:) box. I recalled status of backup usually shown right after Backup Now was selected and I updated few word files to test the backup process. You mentioned change backup engine from File to Category. How do I do that?

WD Backup and WD SmartWare are two completely separate backup programs you can use with your unit. In WD SmartWare, the backup engine is changed in the “Backup” tab, in between “Home” and “Retrieve”.

I found out my Smarware is version 1.3.x. I just download the WD Smartware 2.0. During the setup process, I selected Category. After finishing the process, I don’t find the icon for Smartware backup on my desktop. I still can see icon of old WD Backup. Can you help me on how to start the backup process. Thanks.

Since the WD Backup is not working, I have been trying to download WD SmartWare 2.0. Although the installation process was finished, I don’t see the WD SmartWare process in the Task Manager, which is probably the reason I don’t see a WD SmartWare icon on the desktop. How should I set up the SmartWare correctly? Does SmartWare 2.0 work on my recently purchased Passport Ultra 1 TB on W10? I got an email that provided activation code, but the set up process did not ask for activation code. Any suggestions ? Thanks.

I located the SmartWare in the Start Menu and created the icon on desktop. The backup is working now.
