Passport SE freezing up after update

I’ve had my Passport SE for over 6 months. This week, I did an update and followed the instructions about unplugging and restarting.

Since restarting and completing the update, my drive freezes. When I try to disconnect it, it says it’s still in use. I end up having to shut down my computer to eject it. This morning it actually froze my whole computer when I was trying to transfer a file.

I tried to go back into the WD app and re-insall the update, but that app will not launch.

Any thoughts to how I might go about fixing this?

First thing you should do is backup your data on the drive, then you should tested with Data Lifeguard Diagnostics.

There might be some bad sectors on the drive.

once you backup your data, if you can, you might try relaunching the firmware updater on another mac and see if you can successfully update the drive there.  or you could try it on a windows computer.   a while back there was an issue with the mac firmware updater and people were actually having to do the update from a windows pc.
