My son gave me fpr Christmas a Passport with 800G to ‘safely’ store my multitracks from my studio, 5 months later it crapped out, won’t let me access it. The very reason this device exists is for storage and it Fails miserably.
After a few go arounds with WD I find that they have no means of retrieval!
WHAT? A company that supplies storage devices and No Retrieval Service?
I was offered two choices; “one is to reformat the drive and see if after reformatting the bad sectors are repaired, if this is done then you can keep using the drive as you were before but please have in mind that reformatting the drive will erase all its contents, the other option would be replace the drive.”
Who cares about the stupid drive, I have 4 years of original music recorded on this thing, it is supposed to STORE the **bleep** files safely . . . . major FAIL as a storage device and major FAIL as a company.
Why on earth would I every put my trust in this company again, why would I ever purchase or own another product from this company? Furthermore, why would I ever recommend this company or its products to anyone else?
This is just a users forum not customer service. I doubt any drive maker will provide free data recovery. You might post more detail on the problem and maybe somebody here can help you. Sadly you learned the hard way to never trust important data to just one drive no matter who makes it. There is always professional data recovery but it is expensive.
Yeah I know it’s just a user’s forum, I guess I’m just venting.
I’ll probably have a pro recover the data, and yeah lesson learned.
I still think it’s pretty uncool not to provide remedies for your own product.
Thanks,
SB
It’s kind of hard to tell what really happened with your passport. Is it a Smartware drive? Also, does it show up in Computer? Have you checked to see if it shows up in Disk Management? Did you try it on another computer? What operating system were you using it with? You say that it crapped out, but what do you mean by that? What is it, or is it not, doing?
Win XP Dell Dimension 4700 Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2800 4GB Ram External HD S1 Pro AudioBox Motu Ethno Komplete7 The Drive doesn’t show, in Disk Management or on another computer. Thanks, Bob
