Over 3 million files not backed-up..!

Drive is WD Passport Elite 640GB running latest version of SmartWare and latest Firmware.

When backing-up I receive an error telling me that over three million (yes Million! ) files are not backed-up.

These add up to over 115GB. When I click on View Files I can see that these are all multiple copies of a file called readme.htm which is 44.54 KB in size. These files all have different creation times.

Any help greatly appreciated!

peking97,

This is particuarly unusual. By “latest version”, are you referring to WD SmartWare 2.2? If so, when did this issue began? Was it after the update? If so, do you encounter the same issue if you uninstall WD SmartWare 2.2, erase the backup folder, restart your computer, and install WD SmartWare once more?

Thanks for reply.

S/W is 2.2.0 and F/W is 2.018. I cannot say for definate if this occurred after updating as I had not been using WD SmartWare for some time even though I bought the drive over a year ago. When I re-enabled it I was offered the update and accepted straight away.

I’m using automatic folder backup rather than file backup and I notice that if I de-select the *Documents* folder then my problem disappears so it looks like the problem arises when *Docs* is selected and something is creating a readme file of the identical size several times every minute thereby giving rise to the problem.

I shall do as you suggest as regards re-installing etc. over the next few days and report back.
