Ongoing issues

Recently My Passport 2TB stopped working. No Breaks, fails or damage done physically to the unit.

the harddive works but it idles and the icon does not show up on computer and when it does nothing happens and continues to idle and is no responsive. From the first signs of issues the unit would get slower and slower to respond so this problem is gradual over a period of time and NOT all of a sudden.

p.s. I was also closing in on the red area of filling the harddrive’s data capacity!

apparently I herd through a friend in the tech community that this model has reports of connection issues in a number of cases. Is anyone else been experiencing the same thing with there WD My Passport 2TB ?

There are many different 2TB WD My Passport units sharing the same name. The exact model number is needed in order to properly identify your unit.

On the other hand, your unit could be showing signs of hardware degradation. I’d recommend replacing your unit’s USB cable and proceeding tun a diagnostic test using WD Drive Utilities, WD SmartWare, or WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostics depending on the generation of your unit.

If it fails any test (Particularly the SMART test) then it should be replaced.
