Old WD External Hard Drive not Powering UP

Hello. I have been trying to turn on an WD external hard drive that I haven’t used for years. I bought the power adapter a few years ago as had lost the original one. I’m wondering if it’s the power adapter causing the problem but it seems hard to get 5 pin mini din adapters to give another one a go. Is it common for there to be power issues with drives that haven’t been used for a long time. I’m quite worried about losing the data on the hard drive. If anyone has any advice, I’d appreciate it.

Something not moved for a long time could be frozen up. Does drive make any noise when power is supplied?

Hello and thank you for your help. I’m not sure the power is getting to the device as the light on the hard drive is not coming on. Should the light definitely come on if power is being received? sorry, I’m aware this is quite basic stuff!

You never mentioned if the replacement P/S ever made drive work in the past. To get a good diagnosis, take power supply and drive to a computer repair shop. Some drives have a power indicator light and some don’t. Good luck with this.
