Mybook Power Adapters

I am in Canada and looking for a power adapter for my 8 TB MyBook for one I lost. It is a 12 Volt 1.5 Amp adapter manufactured by Ktec - I have another identical unit that has that adapter. I can get a 12 volt unit with 2 AMP from a local electronics supplier but the 12 volt 1.5 Amp one they have doesn’t fit properly - it’s won’t fit into the unit’s socket. I couldn’t find the adapter on the WD Web site - is it available to order directly from WD - in Canada in particular? If not, where would I get one? I checked Amazon and the prices are high for the Ktec. Would the 2 Amp unit work? Finally what is the spec of the actual connector so that I can add that to my requirements if I call around - in others words what socket/plug size would I detail - different adapters seem to have different depths, sizes and circumference. I have 3 universal power adapter kits and about 40 adapters and none of them fit in and I don’t know how the terminology for socket/plug options.

What would the input current be? Is that what determines the socket/plug type?

Any feedback on this is appreciated in advance.

Hi,

The Amp rating of the power supply shows the most the supply can handle without burning out. So, if the original supply was for 1.5 Amp, then a replacement for 2.0 Amp will be within the amount used by the My Book. However, the small connector at the end of the replacement supply cord must match that on the original supply cord to fit in the receptacle on the My Book.

If you do not have your original manual, you can find a replacement online. Go to the Support area and find support for Legacy and Other Products. work your way thru the pages and your model number and you should find the manual which will give you more information. I do not see Power Supplies listed, but there are phone numbers which you can call for help. Note that you hae to use email to order parts.

Hope this helps.
