I just purchased a 3Tb external drive. It installed well (seemed to need the SES driver, which I also installed). I didn’t install the WD backup software. Windows backup fails with an unknown IO error when trying to create a system image backup. The drive backs up 80 Gb or so user data from both machines with no problem via Windows Backup. However when I include a copy of the system image, the copy fails when trying to copy the RECOVER partition. Same symptoms on my 2 W7 machines (one Dell desktop, one ASUS laptop, different ages etc).
The backups have been working fine on my older 500Mb WD external drive.
Any opinions - is it some kind of authorization error? Seems strange it reaches the same point on both systems before failing with an unknown IO error.
