MyBook 12TB: How to read SMART-status

My new MyBook 12TB makes two types of strange noises:

  1. Sometimes a series of quite fast clicks (for roughly 15 seconds, several clicks per second)
  2. Lounder noises like the typical “sound of death”
    Now I would like to check for the disks status. Is there a way to check the disk status via SMART? I have both Linux and Windows available.
