My sansa fuse + won't lock

I downloaded the manual for sansa fuse + and the pdf

To lock the device to temporarily disable the input buttons,

hold down the play/pause button for 3 seconds.

Unfortunately , it doesn’t every lock, no locking screen ever shows.

My firmware is set to 02.38.06a The sansa updater 1.304 says I have no updates to be made.

The lock function was changed with a firmware update, and the manual hasn’t been updated to reflect the change. To lock/unlock the player, simply hold the power button briefly (about half a second, maybe). A longer press will turn the unit off or on, and a very long press (20-30 seconds) will reset the player if it freezes.
