I use the My Passport Ultra to backup photo files while traveling and is formatted FAT32. I recently returned from a trip and successfully transferred a portion of the photos from SD cards onto the drive using my internal SD card reader on an iMac. I then upgraded to El Capitan (OS X 10.11.1) and have found that now, when I plug in the My Passport drive, it disables the internal SD card reader, meaning that my computer no longer recognizes it as being on the USB bus. When I restart my computer, it works fine again, that is, until I plug in the My Passport. I’m not sure what is going on, but clearly there is a cause/effect between mounting the drive and failure of the SD Card reader. Any thoughts?
Hello there,
This could be because of the drive being formatted in FAT 32, try to connect the drive on a different computer to see if you get the same result.
Thanks. Unfortunately I don’t have another computer with a built-in SD Card reader. External card readers work fine, and everything worked normally with OS X 10.10. I need to keep the FAT32 format because of the hardware I use to transfer files on the road.
