Is there any difference apart from the fact that My Passport Essential comes with bundled software? Because the bundled software can easily be substituted with third party free software in Elements. Is there a difference in build quality? Is Elements more rugged than Passport?

the advantage of passport is the faster interface and sleeker design
The Elements model is very simplistic and has no confusing virtual partition and no encryption. No automatic syncing software. Elements is a simple blank disk and nothing else. Elements Portable (i believe) also has the faster interface of the passport series as well.
