My passport essential 500GB: USB 2.0 speed

I just bought a my passport essential 500GB, I did some speed test and I also disabled the antivirus, firewall, etc.
Here the speed with a netbook with Vista:

and here with windows XP:

I transfered ( with the old style drag and drop) a 6GB .bin file ( created with diskbench) to the hd and the copy lasted 4 minutes and 20 seconds. Although crystal disk mark say in XP i have almost 27MB/sec in writing, I never get over 25MB/sec (as you can read on diskbench).

Ok the speeds are not bad, but I was exepting to reach the maximum speed of USB 2.0. Is it normal? I have seen some test online i have seen people reaching 30-35MB/sec with the same hd… Also I don’t believe the computers are the problem because the hard disk reaches only 25MB/sec in both computers. The hard disks are defragmented with defraggler.

PS notice I’m not talking about USB 3.0.

Hi there, there are a ton of things that work together on the speeds you’ll get. Your MoBo, processor, driver quality, USB controller type (Integrated vs. PCI) and more things will play on the speed. Unless you have an Über high-end system then I don’t think you’ll get more than that, and even on twin computers you won’t get the same speeds.
