My Passport doesn't have drive letter automatically

I’m using a My Passport 1TB with the latest firmware. I’m using a Windows 7 laptop.

Last week, I downloaded some movies and copy to the HDD, then I plugged it into a TV Box, but actually the TV Box couldn’t play media files from HDD, it just could use HDD as the storage for the recorded TV programs.
Before I realized it, I just tried to create a folder in the HDD using the TV Box user interface on the screen. Then suddenly I found out it formatted my HDD as FAT32, I guess it’s the type of file system that it can read and I lost all of my data.

Now when I plug the HDD to my laptop, it doesn’t show up as a drive, but still appears on Disk Management (Windows 7) with FAT32 file system. Then I format it as exFAT and assign it with a drive letter. Windows Explorer now can see it, but every time I unplug and plug the HDD again, I have to assign letter for it so that Windows Explorer can see it. I have tried with other computer but this still happens, that means there’s problem with the HDD. I have used the diskpart method with command “automount” , it didn’t work.

How can I fix it? Thank you!

Hi ntd252,

Maybe you should try contacting WD’s Technical Support about this.

That’s just what I did before your reply. The problem was solved by low level formatting. This is not an optimal way but it worked.
