My fuze freezes my computer!

So I have the 4gb fuze. I haven’t used it for a while, and a few weeks ago I got it out and all of my music was erased off of it. Earlier today I went to put my music back on it, plugged it into my computer, as soon as the Sansa turns on and starts connecting, my computer freezes. Absolutely nothing, music stops playing, no moving the mouse, nothing. My wife also has a 4gb fuze, so I thought I would try hers to see what happens. Hers doesn’t freeze the computer, but the machine wont recognize the device. I tried to update the firmware, but since the CPU wont recognize, I cannot update, or is there a way to update it with out the device being recognized? Someone help.

What happens if you turn the unit on before you plug in into the computer?

What USB mode are you using? If it’s MTP try switching to MSC.

I tried turning it on before connecting it to the computer, and it still locks everything up. I also tried all 3 usb modes, same problem…

I also just tried to connect both fuze’s to my PS3, just to see, and the playstation wouldn’t recognize either of them. But mine did not freeze the ps3, so this is good.

I had this issue with mine as well until I changed the USB settings in the BIOS. For the life of me I can’t remember what exactly I changed, unfortuantly. I’m thinking it was the legacy settings, but don’t quote me as of yet.

I have an odd problem too… if my fuze is in the griffin dock and it’s attached at poweron my laptop stops mid-boot (hangs)  and no it’s NOT set to boot from usb… weird huh?

(I simply make sure it’s not plugged in while I boot)

Try another operating system. If it happens to you with, for example, a linux liveCD, then it’s a BIOS problem. Otherwise something in your windows is wrong.

I am going to try to connect them to a diff. computer tomarrow, and see what happens. Sorry, i am not the most computer saavy guy, what is BIOS?
