My external hard is flashing but not booting

My Passport Essential SmartWare 500 GB is connected to the USB port, I can see the lamp in its side is flashing, and I can feel the vibration inside it as if it’s working. The problem is that I cannot see the drive in My Computer or in the WD SmartWare application.

I kept it connected for few hours, but there is no progress.

Please advise.

just try to change the usb cable i had the same problem and i just changed the usb cable, and now it’s fully working

Same issues here.

Drive does not appear in My Computer; it shows in the Device Manager as WD and under properties it says that device working properly.  It shows in the task bar under Safely Remove Hardware as external HDD.  When first connected to USB port shows lights on the drive going up and down like it is trying to initialize; later only the first light stays on.

I have tried it on 2 desktops and another laptop with same results.  I tried 2 otherr USB cables; same thing.  I even tried a Mac and it sees the drive but can not access it; also, the Mac is reporting the drive as a WD 2.2 TB drive.  This drive is only 320 GB.  The Mac can not reformat/erase/repair this drive.

Any suggestions??? Sorry Feldeeb for highjacking your post.
