Good morning, I have replaced my Win 7 OS with the Win 8.1. In the external drive, I have found My Music, My Pictures, My Videos everything went well restoring them on the PC hardrive. The problem I have is that although the Document folder is there on the external drive, it contains but one file which is for PaintShop Pro, all my OpenOffice files are not there. I notice before opening the file on the WD Book that enables me to find the saved files, files that have a lock on them are these past saved files? So, my question is what happened to my OpenOffice files?
Hello, I used the WD Smartware that came with the external drive… Sure hope you can help, by the way, as I did not format the hardrive, it has been suggested that I would then have a Windows.old file, I do not.
Hello, OK, I installed Windows 8.1 a week ago and everything went well until I found that all my « MyFiles » had dissapeared, not too happy about that but…
I posted a request to see if anyone had any idea where all my word, excel, PDF etc went, I guess everybody was just as puzzled as I am.
OK, moving right along, OK, I lost everything in the MyDocuments file life moves on. I had a suggestion that I could find a file called windows.old, nope not there and it was not hidden.
I am using the program supplied by Western Digital for the back ups. I now formatted the hard rive again using the software the My Book came with and upon backing up all my goodies don’t I see the MyDocuments from the computers hard drive showing 4.4 gigs??? OK, I am a little excepted that maybe just maybe my files where miraculously saved. Let the back up begin, after 1 hour or so, I created a file on my desktop and tried uploading the MyDocuments from the WD Book to the file I just created, once completed it showed only 2.10 mg. I am sending some print screens for you to look at in hopes that someone can tell me what going on. Initially before upgrading to win 8 I thought all my files where indeed there only to find out that was not the fact. If, I may ask, is it that the back program is the cause of my problems? Please, please, is there someone who can give me a straight answer?
Actually, that is where I found my files when I upgraded from win 7 to 8. As I have stated I lost all mydocument files first time around therefore I should not have anything in MyDocuments, yet, when backing up at it’s finish My Book was showing me 3 gigs???
