When I plug in the drive for the first time a window opens asking “You need to format the disk in drive E: before you can use it, do you want to format it?”. Is that what I need to do on a brand new drive? I thought it was supposed to work right from the start when I plug it in…
Formatted a new hard drive is always recommended. Additionally, newer hard drives may use a particular file system configuration optimized for newer operating systems. This may result in older operating systems requiring the hard drive to be formatted.
