My Book Mirror edition folders appear empty

I have recently copied about 500 GB of files onto a My Book Mirror edition USB drive.  Now when i look at the folder in the USB drive it appears empty!  All files have been accessible the past few days, just all of a sudden they are not showing up.  My only guess would be that the drive is doing some copying from one drive to the other because it is in mirror mode, but would that cause the files to be unaccessable?  And how long could i expect this to be happening for?
