My Book Elite issue

I have used the My Book Elite successfully for a number of years, and have always been pleased with its service; however, subsequent to a fatal Desktop crash, I’ve been installing a new Desktop PC, and the My Book Elite is non-responsive.  I can’t reformat, as I’ve seen suggested here, or I will defeat the purpose of the external drive since all files from the previous PC are stored on it, and I can ill-afford to lose them - the computer panel does not show any proper name assigned to the drive, or any other way in which to confirm its recognition by the system.

There was no initial installation disk with the My Book Elite, and its primary boot-up was accomplished with no problems on the computer to which it was first attached.  I’ve looked over the software offered on the W-D support site, but am confused as to what is actually required to properly get the drive running as it should.

All help relative to this matter is greatly appreciated, in advance!

Thanks so much…

P.S.

If it’s of any help, the front panel display on the My Book Elite is blank - it is not showing its name or allocated space, as has always been there prior to this difficulty.  The power light, however, is lit…
