I had a WD tech help me uninstall and reinstall the WD “Smartware” for My Book Elite, 2TB yesterday, and it worked fine, backing up my C: drive files. This moring it was back to giving me the same error message when I tried to restart Smartware. All “stored files” are still accessable for My Book, the back-up is not.

Can you let me know exactly what Operating System you have? Also I suggest you to update your Netframe to 4.0 and if possible update Smartware to the latest version.
