My Book Duo Erase error

Hi

I have just bought a WD refurbished My Book Duo, it is the 16TB model and has two WD Red 8TB drives in it.

My PC is running Windows 7 Ultimate.

I tried to configure them as JBOD in WD Drive Utilities but I get “There has been an error erasing your drive”.

Before I ran the utility both drives were shown as “unallocated” in Computer Management, after the error message one is shown as “RAW” with a healthy primary partition of 7451.88GB. The other is still unallocated.

Should I have initialized them as GPT before starting ? Should I also create a partition ?

I have searched Google but have not found any thing that might help and there was no useful documentation with the unit.

Any assistance would be greated appreciated.

Hello Kernow,

As both of the drive are 8TB please use GPT scheme while initializing them. Also,as you want to use them in JBOD you need not to partition the drives. Using WD drive utilities you should be able to perform the operation.
