Heres there story:
I usually use my external USB hard drive for everything. well I was doing my usual error checking(My computer>disk drive>properties>tools>error checking) on all my hard drives. So my hard drive suddenly dissapears. I think to myself oh well Ill just unplug it and plug it back in. it shows back up but instead of it being the normal drive it came up as “drive Q:” and I couldnt open the drive.
I have looked around and tried quite a few recommendations none have worked.
I tried the Control Panel>Manage>disk management…
- I get the initialize disk and pops up “disk 1” and its checked. I have tried both MBR and GPT and both give me the “incorrect Funtion error” The drive shows up But i am not able to Put it offline either.
I have tried to uninstall the hard drive and all the usb’s and then have them reinstalled. that did not work, the hard drive reinstalls as does everything else and it shows up in the device manager, but still nothing in my computer.
Some have even said it might be the microsoft office beta, but I do not have that installed on my computer.
I tried to connect the hard drive to another computer, and it gave me the “Drive Q:” and I was not able to open it.
The only thing left I can try to do is get the data off the drive. But how do I get it off the drive that does not show up in my computer? Does anyone have any recommendations on data recovery programs?
Does anyone else have any suggestions? I am using Windows 7 and have been using it for quite a while, I have run out of options and im getting pretty frustrated as I have important files on the hard drive.
