I have just replaced the connector PCB on my My Book 4TB because I damaged the connector pins on the original PCB, and now I cannot see the hard drive on Windows Explorer (in Windows 10). It shows up in Devices and Printers, but nothing on Windows Explorer. It recognises the drive in WD Utilities but with 0 Bytes, but nothing appears in WD Security.
The indication light is flashing slowly.
Can anyone help please?
WD My Books have Hardware Encryption … if they are removed from their enclosures, or PCB’s are swapped, then you will not be able to access the data without the Encryption Keys.
Google … WD My Book Encryption for more info.
Hi, JoeySmyth, thanks for your reply.
I have had a look at the Encryption info, (mind blowing!!), so I have not attempted any of that yet.
When I open WD Drive Utilities, I can access the Run Drive Status Check, and have the “SMART status failed result”.
Upon viewing the WD forums, it is mentioned that this means the hard drive is corrupt or scrap.
I have checked the drive in Disk Management, and it shows the drive needing Initialising, when trying that it keeps coming up with “The request failed due to a fatal device hardware error”.
Have you any idea if this means that the drive could be scrap?
Thanks for any help.
