I just bought the 3TB edition of the My Book Essential series. After copying 1tb of data i tried to turn off the drive. I safetly removed the drive from windows and then pressed the power button. It didn’t seem to do anything.
Am i doing something wrong

RIght after installing the drive in my Windows 7 computer i formated the drive through Windows to get rid of the WD junk on the drive.
Windows 7 Ultimate x64
USB 2.0
The power button only works with Smartware installed.

And even if Smartware was installed and running, the Power button won’t work after the drive is safely disconnected from the system… you either “Safely Disconnect” the drive from the system tray or press the Power button to safely disconnect it.
