Mixed Results on my new WD Elements 2TB, is it defective?

Hi all,

I have mixed results on my new WD Elements 2TB.

When I did full format from command prompt using format /FS:NTFS, it stopped in the middle of progress saying that there’s bad sector.

But when I ran Extended Test using Data Lifeguard Diagnostic, the result is Passed.

I tried to Write Zeros using Data Lifeguard Diagnostic and it couldn’t finish because there’s bad sector.

FYI, I connect this drive to USB 2.0 port because I don’t have USB 3.0 port. Is that what causes the problem?

I’m really disappointed by WD. I just received this new drive because the old one has bad sector. Since the old one was still under warranty, I decided to RMA the old drive. But in the end, this new drive I just received has this problem.

Can anyone please help me to troubleshoot? Should I replace this new drive?

Thanks.

Hello,

As a recommendation, try testing the drive on a different PC to see if you get the same results. If stills the same, contact WD Support for direct assistance on this case.

WD Contact info:

Hi Ermorel,

I’ve tested the drive on a different PC using different cable. It seems the drive is ok for now.

Thanks for your response.
