Like others, I have a variety of external drives attached in to various hosts including an ASUS router. When attached directly to a Windows or MacOS computer, they can be managed using those operating systems and WD’s tools. This is not so in the case of one My Book 4TB drive attached to my router. While I can create folders and do other things using file managers and other tools on the desktop computers, I am reliant on the limited functionality of ASUS’ built-in USB app for other tasks. So, for example, I am unable to update the firmware on the My Book drive without re-attaching it directly to a Windows PC or Macintosh computer.
This purpose of this note is the creation of a single go-to place for those seeking support of WD drives attached to routers. While there a number of related posts are scattered through they WD Community but they are often hard to find. I encourage users to share their questions and learnings.
