M.2 stuck at Gen3 on a PCIE4 Mobo

I have a WD Western Digital Black SN850X w/Heatsink 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive in my system and when I look at it using the WD drive tool it shows up as Gen 3 instead of Gen 4.

Motherboard is Asus TUF GAMING X570-PLUS (WI-FI) ATX AM4
CPU AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 6-core, 12-Thread Unlocked

seems like both support gen 4 but I cannot get it to recognise the drive as gen 4 in the WD drive tool or the BIOS.
