Loose Connector - Out Of Warranty

I have a 1TB external hard drive (WD) that has a loose CONNECTOR  that is working for now but needs to be replaced soon. Id like to point out that the entire unit is PERFECTLY FINE except for the connector, but my unit is 5 years old and is out of warranty already.

I called WD support for assistance (i was willing to pay for repairs if any) but they have indicated that WD does not provide servicing/repairs and that I should just get another unit to keep my data.

This pretty much means that when I buy another WD hard drive, if in case a part of the unit (e.g. a loose connector) is damaged out of warranty, I cannot have it repaired or extend its usage and I will need to buy a new one.

Are there other options we users can avail of to extend usage of a fully functional unit that has but ONE small part in need of replacement? Hoping to hear from other WD hard drive users on this, thanks.

Hello and welcome to the WD Community.

Please note that WD Support does not have a repair department. What they can do for you is to replace the unit for you if the unit stills under warranty.

Let’s see if any of the users can provide you some information about this.
