Laptop(s) and computer not detecting "SanDisk Extreme 45MB/s"

Hey,

I bought a 16 GB SanDisk Extreme (45MB/s - 16 GB) SDHC card for my Canon EOS 600D.

Ive taken about 1600 photos and its nearly empty so I decide to plug it into the SD card slot on my HP Pavilion laptop. It doesn’t even detect it, let alone display any error messages, same with my XPS laptop. I then plug it into the SD card slot on my Dell Alienware PC, it still isn’t being detected!

I finally plug it into my EEPC with the Linux operating system and it works!  The only problem is, the computer is very slow and the internet and USB ports on it do not work. But I now know that there isn’t a problem with the Card.

Why isn’t it detected on my Windows devices? Is there a driver or software required? Or a special addaptor?

Any help will be much appreciated!

Can you read other SDHC cards in the laptops? If not you likely have readers that are SD only.

Easy work around just connect the camera to the computer using a USB cable and use it for a reader.

Windows XP has a problem reading cards above 4 GB. If you have XP you’d need a patch from MS. HTH.
